Nancy M. Schlichting was appointed to the MSU Board of Trustees by Gov. Rick Snyder in December 2018 to complete the term vacated by George Perles, which ends Jan. 1, 2023. Schlichting retired in 2017 after 14 years as CEO of Henry Ford Health System, based in Detroit. She is credited with leading the health system through a dramatic financial turnaround and for award-winning quality and patient safety, customer service and diversity initiatives. Schlichting has more than 35 years of senior level executive experience in four major health systems and has served on more than 80 corporate and community boards. She currently serves on the boards of Walgreens Boots Alliance, Hill-Rom Holdings, Inc., Encompass Health, Duke University, Duke University Health System (vice chair), the Kresge Foundation and Detroit Symphony Orchestra. In 2015, President Barack Obama appointed Schlichting to chair the Commission on Care to create a 20 year strategic plan for veterans’ health care. Schlichting is a highly regarded expert and accomplished speaker on strategic leadership, quality, cultural transformation, community engagement, innovation and diversity. She graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in public policy studies from Duke University, and earned an MBA in health care administration and accounting from Cornell University. Schlichting resides with her wife, Pam Theisen, in Bloomfield Township.
