Maybank named MSU interim vice president for student affairs

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Denise B. Maybank has been appointed Michigan State University’s interim vice president for student affairs and services.

The appointment, approved by the MSU Board of Trustees at its Dec. 10 meeting, is effective Jan. 1, 2011.

Maybank succeeds Lee June, who is stepping down to return to the faculty. June has served as vice president for student affairs and services since 1996.

June has also held the title of associate provost for academic student services and multicultural issues. The duties associated with this position will be assigned within the provost’s office.

In 2005, Maybank was appointed MSU’s associate vice president for student affairs and services and director of student life. In 2008 she was named senior associate vice president.

Prior to coming to MSU, Maybank served as the associate to the president for the University of Nebraska system. She has also held positions as assistant dean for student affairs for the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – School of Osteopathic Medicine, and coordinator of the Master of Arts in Teaching program for the College of New Jersey School of Education.

Originally from New York City, Maybank earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from the City University of New York – Brooklyn College. She also has a master's degree in educational administration from Columbia University – Teachers College, and a doctoral degree in counseling and school psychology from MSU.
