Mitch Lyons was elected to the Board of Trustees for an eight-year term that began January 1, 2011. Lyons attended MSU on a football scholarship, playing for coach and fellow MSU trustee George Perles from 1988 to 1992. Upon graduation from MSU in 1992 with a degree in general business administration, Lyons spent seven years in the NFL, playing for both Atlanta (1993-96) and Pittsburgh (1997-99). After his NFL career, Lyons moved back to Rockford, Michigan, and began a career in financial services in 2000. He now owns Lyons Kitzrow Capital Group, a firm that works with individuals and businesses in the areas of wealth accumulation, protection, and distribution, offering investment management as well as life- and disability-insurance strategies. Lyons also is active in his community, serving on various charitable boards that have included the YMCA and the West Michigan Sports Awards, including eight years as chair. Lyons and his wife, Angela, have six children and reside in Rockford.
