MSU Board of Trustees recognizes 22 students for academic achievements

EAST LANSING, Mich.—Michigan State University’s Board of Trustees recognized 22 students for academic achievements at today's meeting.

The 22 students all achieved a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

Awards are made at the fall and spring commencements to the six or more graduating seniors who achieved the highest cumulative scholarly records by the close of the preceding semester. At least three–fourths of the credits for the degree must be numerical grades earned at MSU. Fall, spring and summer graduating seniors are eligible for the awards.

Recipients of the awards are:

  • Marissa E. Baca of Clinton Township, a physiology major in the College of Natural Science and a member of the Honors College. The daughter of Robert and Marilyn Baca, she is a 2005 graduate of Chippewa Valley High School.
  • Julianna L. Beall of East Lansing, a supply chain management major in the Eli Broad College of Business and a member of the Honors College. The daughter of Ken and Sandy Beall, she is a 2004 graduate of Okemos High School.
  • Edwin Chen of Troy, a physiology and chemistry major in the College of Natural Science, a member of the Honors College and a master’s student in physiology. The son of Ming-Huei and Amy Chen, he is a 2004 graduate of Troy Athens High School.
  • Kalli B. Decker of Portland, a family and community services major in the College of Social Science and a member of the Honors College. The daughter of Dale Decker, she is a 2004 graduate of Lakewood High School in Lake Odessa.
  • Catherine A. DeDene of Detroit, an elementary education language arts major in the College of Education. The daughter of Darryl and Meg DeDene of Detroit, she is a 2004 graduate of Regina High School in Warren.
  • Kacey E. Dittmer of Royal Oak, a communication major in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences. The daughter of Brian and Michelle Dittmer, she is a 2004 graduate of Kimball High School.
  • Troy A. Eberhart of Farwell, a finance major in the Eli Broad College of Business. The son of Lloyd and Cheryl Eberhart, he is a 2004 graduate of Clare High School.
  • Kathryn L. Fletcher of Ypsilanti, a human biology major in the Lyman Briggs School of Science in the College of Natural Science and a member of the Honors College. The daughter of Roger and Kristie Fletcher, she is a 2004 graduate of Tecumseh High School.
  • Tara L. Franey of Lexington, Ky., a biosystems engineering major in the College of Engineering. The daughter of Terence and Brenda Franey, she is a 2004 graduate of Paul Laurence Dunbar High School.
  • Kurtis L. Geerlings of Zeeland, a physics major in the Lyman Briggs School of Science in the College of Natural Science and a member of the Honors College. Married to Heidi Geerlings, he is the son of Steve and Dawn Geerlings and is a 2004 graduate of Zeeland High School.
  • Kristin E. Guina of Plymouth, with majors in education and Spanish in the colleges of Education and Arts and Letters, respectively, and a member of the Honors College. The daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Guina, she is a 2004 graduate of Ladywood High School in Livonia.
  • Sarah E. Haskin of Sunfield, a communication major in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences and a member of the Honors College. The daughter of Brian and Becky Haskin, she is a 2004 graduate of Lakewood High School in Lake Odessa.
  • Rupesh R. Kotecha of Midland, a physiology major in the College of Natural Science and a member of the Honors College. The son of Rajesh and Sudarshana Kotecha, he is a 2005 graduate of Herbert enry Henry HenryHenry Dow High School.
  • Matthew W. Mergener of McMillan, with majors in public administration and public policy, and communication, in the colleges of Social Science and Communication Arts and Sciences, respectively. The son of Richard and Tammy Mergener, he is a 2003 graduate of Newberry High School.
  • John M. Pray of Charlotte, a music performance major in the College of Music and a member of the Honors College. The son of Joseph and Lori Pray, he is a 2004 graduate of Charlotte High School.
  • Lyndsay M. Stiff of Riverview, majoring in Russian, and East Asian languages and cultures in the College of Arts and Letters. The daughter of Cynthia Stiff of Riverview and Mark Stiff of Milford, she is a 2004 graduate of Riverview Community High School.
  • Paul J. Suchyta of Shelby Township, a computer engineering major in the College of Engineering and a member of the Honors College. The son of Edward and Linda Suchyta, he is a 2004 graduate of Notre Dame Preparatory High School in Pontiac.
  • Mary E. Turcotte, a music performance major in the College of Music and a member of the Honors College. The daughter of John and Diane Turcotte, she attended Walled Lake High School, was homeschooled and graduated in 2004.
  • Bryan E. Wagenknecht of Haslett, a mechanical engineering major in the College of Engineering and a member of the Honors College. The son of Larry and Amy Wagenknecht, he is a 2004 graduate of Haslett High School.
  • JoAnne M. West of Saginaw, an elementary education major in the College of Education and a member of the Honors College. The daughter of John and Anne West, she is a 2005 graduate of Heritage High School.
  • Nicholas M. West of Rockford, a French major in the College of Arts and Letters. The son of Michael and Mary West, he is a 2004 graduate of Rockford Senior High School.
  • Allison Zolad of Farmington Hills, an elementary education major in the College of Education and a member of the Honors College. The daughter of Jim Zolad, she is a 2005 graduate of North Farmington High School.
