EAST LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan State University Community Music School-East Lansing will have a new home in December.

On Friday, the MSU Board of Trustees approved the $1.3 million purchase of University Reformed Church, 4930 Hagadorn Road.

Currently, the school leases space from East Lansing Public Schools, located at 841 Timberline, in East Lansing. The lease will expire Nov. 30.

“The new location for CMS will allow for far greater participation of MSU students and from the community, as it is on a bus route,” said Rhonda Buckley, executive director of CMS. “With its location on Hagadorn, the visibility will allow us to roll out some new, exciting programs and collaborations with campus, which we look forward to announcing soon.”

As the outreach arm of the College of Music, CMS-East Lansing and CMS-Detroit offer music education to the community regardless of age, ability or income. Programs include summer camps; New Horizons Bands; the Suzuki Program; music therapy services; children, youth and adult choirs; early childhood music education; private lessons; and classes running the musical gamut. Financial aid is available.
