EAST LANSING, Mich. — At its Oct. 26 meeting, the Michigan State University Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Fred Poston as dean of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

The appointment of Poston, who has served as MSU’s vice president for finance and operations and treasurer since 1999, is effective Jan. 1, 2013.

Following are other actions taken by the board at its October meeting.

The board authorized the administration to proceed with construction of a new high bay for the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams project. The new high bay will provide space for assembly and testing of technical equipment as FRIB is built and will provide key research space when FRIB is complete.

The university was authorized to begin planning for the new North Neighborhood Engagement Center and Multicultural Center at the MSU Union.

The board authorized the university to proceed with the reconstruction of the Bogue Street/Shaw Lane intersection. The project will include a partial closure of Bogue Street. Construction will begin in April 2013.

The board authorized the administration to proceed with a utility-improvement project at the Brody Complex. The work will include replacement of the complex’s steam and condensate distribution systems.
