The Michigan State University Board of Trustees voted Friday to authorize the university to proceed with the construction of a new medical research facility in Grand Rapids.

The 160,000-square-foot facility will be located at the site of the former Grand Rapids Press building in downtown Grand Rapids.

Following are other actions taken by the board at its February meeting.

The board authorized the university to proceed with the construction of a new facility to house the men’s and women’s intercollegiate golf teams. It will be located on the Forest Akers Golf Course and will include coaches’ offices, locker rooms, an indoor practice green and weight room.

A resolution allowing the university to proceed with construction of the third and fourth floors of the under-construction Bio Engineering Facility was approved. The project will include research laboratories, offices and collaborative workspaces.

The board authorized the university to proceed with the construction of a building that will house staff affiliated with the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams. The 74,250-square-foot facility will include offices, conference rooms and a 265-seat lecture hall.
