10 MSU students honored for academic achievements

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Ten Michigan State University students were honored today for their academic achievements by the MSU Board of Trustees.

The 10 students, all May graduates, achieved a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

The Board of Trustees awards are granted at each commencement to students having the highest scholastic averages at the close of their last semester in attendance.

The award recipients are:

  • Bryan A. Corpus of Toledo, Ohio, a psychology major in the College of Social Science. He is a member of the MSU Honors College and is the son of Ernesto and Margaret Corpus. He is a 1999 graduate of St. Francis De Sales High School.
  • Paula L. Crouse of Ida, a botany and plant pathology major in the College of Natural Science. She is the daughter of Gloria Crouse of Ida and Stephen Crouse of Monroe and is a 1998 graduate of Ida High School.
  • Michael P. Divita of Indianapolis, Ind., an urban and regional planning major in the College of Social Science. He is a member of the MSU Honors College and is the son of James and Mary Divita. He is a 1998 graduate of Benjamin Davis High School.
  • Patrick W. Gallagher of Louisville, Ky., a computer science major in the College of Engineering. He is a member of the MSU Honors College and is the son of Brian Gallagher of Columbus, Ind., and Sandra Gallagher of Grand Haven. He is a 1998 graduate of Trinity High School.
  • Benjamin Gielda of Brighton, a physiology major in Lyman Briggs School in the College of Natural Science. He is the son of Tom and Peggy Gielda and is a 1999 graduate of Brighton High School.
  • Karen Ives of Durand, a civil engineering major in the College of Engineering. She is the daughter of Steve and Dorothy Ives and is a 1996 graduate of Swartz Creek High School.
  • Jennifer M. Schlegel of Webster, N.Y., a zoology major in the College of Natural Science. She is a member of the MSU Honors College and is the daughter of Robert and Joan Schlegel. She is 1998 graduate of Our Lady of Mercy High School in Rochester, N.Y.
  • Joshua P. Spaete of Bessemer, a zoology major in the College of Natural Science. He is the son of Dennis and Susan Spaete and is a 1998 graduate of Luther L. Wright High School in Ironwood.
  • Brandon J. Verhougstraete of Bath, a biological science major in the College of Natural Science. He is the son of David and Cris Verhougstraete and is a 1998 graduate of Eastern High School in Lansing.
  • Sarah M. Zagata of Sebewaing, an agricultural and natural resources communications major in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and an international relations major in James Madison College. She is the daughter of Michael and Lorene Zagata and is a 1997 graduate of Unionville-Sebewaing Area High School.
