The Board of Trustees released the following statement on the passing of Dr. Kathleen M. Wilbur:
“The Michigan State University Board of Trustees is saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Kathleen M. Wilbur, our esteemed Senior Vice President for Government Relations. Her commitment and service to MSU since her appointment in 2018 have left an incredible legacy to our institution.
Dr. Wilbur played an essential role in enhancing MSU's stature and capabilities. Because of her efforts, MSU's foundation and future have been fortified. Several key MSU initiatives were funded because of Dr. Wilbur's dedication and expertise. She was instrumental in modernizing the dairy barns and greenhouses, establishing the Engineering and Digital Innovation Center (EDIC), and establishing the Center to Prevent Mass Violence. Her impact and influence will be felt for generations to come.
Dr. Wilbur was a knowledgeable and strategic legislative advocate, fostering connections between our faculty, students, and programs with federal and state legislative leaders and priorities. Her coordination with Apple Inc. was key in successfully launching the MSU Apple Academy, a significant pride point for MSU.
Dr. Wilbur was a proud and loyal Spartan. She earned three degrees from our institution. Her election to the MSU Board of Trustees in 1984, where she served for one term, reflected her commitment to the university's welfare and progress.
MSU and the entire community will feel the loss of Dr. Wilbur deeply. MSU's Board of Trustees extends our condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues. Her legacy at Michigan State University will continue to inspire and guide us in our mission to transform lives through education.”
